Chapter 22 - the ultimatum

Carter calmly opened the envelope in his executive office. Inside was a formal subpoena to testify before a senate committee, accompanied by an implicit ultimatum: hand over the management rights of the foundation, or face fabricated evasion charges.

His head of security stepped into the office, placing a thick dossier on the mahogany desk. Maintaining a terrifyingly cold composure, Carter's face was a mask of absolute, unyielding stone. He operated flawlessly and lethally.

"Vance has bribed half of the committee members," his security chief reported, his voice containing a low rumble of cold indignation. "He has prepared a dirty media campaign to smear our family's honor before the hearing takes place."

Carter stood up, his dark eyes flashing with a razor-sharp glint. The king of the corporate empire had never backed down before any extortionist, no matter how immense a political power facade that person secretly hid behind.
