Chapter 25 - escaping death's door
"Drop your weapons!" A heavily armed mercenary squad appeared from the blind spots, tightly locking down all escape routes for Carter and his special task force. Vance had anticipated this move and secretly laid a trap.
But Carter never stepped into a battle without foreseeing all scenarios. He smirked coldly, dropping an extremely powerful smoke grenade onto the marble floor. Thick white smoke flared up, completely obscuring their vision.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the special task force put on infrared goggles and returned fire. Deafening gunshots tore through the night. Carter dashed through the dense hail of bullets, crashed through a shattered glass window, and jumped out.
A bullet grazed his shoulder causing him to bleed, but he didn't stop. Carter hugged the hard drive tightly to his chest, running toward the armored vehicle waiting at the edge of the forest. The vehicle sped away fast.

The next morning, Carter returned to his secure office, placing the hard drive on the desk. "The evidence is finally here," his security chief said, his eyes gleaming with ultimate victory.
