Chapter 4 - The Hallway Confrontation

"Carter! Wait!" Ray roared, his voice cracking with pure, unadulterated panic.

He abandoned his bourbon glass and sprinted out of the dining room, completely ignoring the fifteen shocked relatives. Dylan quickly lowered his smartphone, the screen facing away from the camera, and chased after his father in his cream sweater, completely confused by the sudden chaos.

Ray caught up to Carter and Shelby in the front hallway. Through the glass panels of the front door, heavy snow was falling on the quiet Charlotte streets.

"Where did you get this?!" Ray shrieked wildly, violently waving the cream-colored paper in the air. His burgundy checked shirt was suddenly soaked in a nervous sweat. "This is a forgery! My father left everything to me! You have no right to this company!"

Carter turned around slowly. The light stubble on his jaw gave him a rugged, utterly unshakeable presence. He adjusted his navy blazer, radiating the crushing, undeniable authority of a true corporate king.

"It's not a forgery, Dad," Carter replied coldly, entirely devoid of human mercy. "Grandpa knew you were going to bleed the company dry. He told me everything the night before he died. I just had to wait for my thirtieth birthday to legally prove it."

Dylan scoffed, stepping up next to his father. "You're delusional, Carter. Dad and I own the board! We're selling the company tomorrow morning to a private equity firm! You get nothing!"

👉 Shelby stepped forward in her emerald dress, entirely ready to destroy the golden child's arrogant illusion.
