Chapter 5 - The Emerald Assassin

"You aren't selling anything tomorrow," a calm, fiercely protective voice echoed in the hallway.
It was Shelby. She didn't look like a quiet, submissive girlfriend anymore. She stood tall in her elegant emerald dress, her shoulder-length brown hair framing a face of pure, calculating intelligence.
Ray sneered at her. "Keep your mouth shut, little girl. This is private family business."
"I am making it federal business, Ray," Shelby stated clinically.
Dylan laughed mockingly. "What are you going to do? You're just a kindergarten teacher!"
"I haven't been a teacher for three years, Dylan," Shelby replied, a chilling, victorious smirk touching the corner of her lips. "I am a Senior Forensic Auditor for the IRS."
The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension completely electrified the hallway. Ray physically staggered backward, his jaw literally unhinging as the absolute, catastrophic reality set in.
"For the last six months," Shelby explained flawlessly, "Carter and I have been quietly auditing the company's internal ledgers. We know exactly why you're so desperate to sell the firm tomorrow morning. You're trying to liquidate the assets and flee before anyone realizes the truth."
