Chapter 3 - The Frozen Boyfriend

As their hands separated, Keegan drew a sharp, shallow breath, looking like he was about to physically pass out right there on the suburban patio. He couldn't speak. His lips parted, but absolutely no sound came out.

Barry, completely oblivious to the massive shift in power that had just occurred, glanced between the two younger men with a confused frown.

"What’s happening Monday?" Barry demanded, crossing his arms over his red polo shirt. He looked at Keegan, expecting the successful corporate boyfriend to join in on the joke. "Did you hire him to clean the bathrooms at your fancy new office, Keegan?"

Keegan squeezed his eyes shut for a terrifying second. The sheer humiliation of Barry's words hit Keegan like a physical blow, but not for the reason Barry thought.

"Dad, stop it," Abby pleaded, her face flushing red. "Dallas just got off a fourteen-hour shift. Leave him alone."

"I’m just asking a simple question, Abigail," Barry snapped back, his smugness returning. "Keegan here is an Executive Vice President at OmniCorp. Dallas drives a van with a plunger in the back. I just want to know how they know each other."

Dallas didn't get defensive. He calmly reached into the cooler, pulled out a bottle of water, and took a slow sip. He looked directly at the terrified boyfriend.

"Go ahead, Keegan," Dallas said, his voice entirely devoid of malice, which somehow made it even more intimidating. "Tell him how we know each other."
