Chapter 6 - The Secret Empire

"What?" Barry choked out, stumbling backward slightly as if he had been slapped. "That's... that's impossible. Dallas drives a white utility van! He wears work boots! He told me he was in sanitation!"

Dallas finally turned to look at his father, his expression completely calm and unbothered.

"I am in sanitation, Dad," Dallas explained smoothly. "Ten years ago, when you kicked me out of the house for refusing to go to law school, I started a commercial waste management company with one single used truck. You called me a garbage man. You told me I was a failure."

Abby gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. She had no idea.

"But waste management is a multi-billion dollar industry," Dallas continued, taking another slow sip of water. "I bought out my competitors. I bought the regional landfills. Five years ago, my holding company acquired OmniCorp to manage our corporate logistics. I didn't lie to you. You just never bothered to ask for the name of my company."

Barry’s face turned a violent shade of red. The embarrassment was completely overwhelming. For a decade, he had relentlessly mocked and humiliated his own son to everyone who would listen, entirely unaware that he was mocking one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the state.

"And Keegan?" Barry stammered, desperately trying to regain some sense of control. "He's an Executive VP! He's your right-hand man, right?"
