Chapter 2 - Bianca Had Been Talking About the House Like It Was Already Hers

Three months before the wedding, Bianca started calling the Bellaforte estate “our house.”

Alessandro noticed.

He simply didn’t think much of it.

The property had belonged to his family for almost ninety years—a sprawling suburban estate with a main residence, guest cottages, gardens, and the smaller west wing where the bridal suite was located.

Alessandro lived there with Livia.

Bianca moved in six months before the wedding.

At first, she was careful.

“Your house.”

“Your father’s study.”

“Livia’s room.”

Then slowly:

“Our bedroom.”

“Our staff.”

“Our west garden.”

Eventually:

“My dressing suite.”

“My renovation plan.”

“My reception wing.”

Alessandro assumed she was emotionally preparing for marriage.

Rosalie did not.

One afternoon, Bianca told a decorator:

“Once the transfer closes, all this childish furniture disappears.”

Rosalie overheard.

“What transfer?” she asked.

Bianca smiled.

“Family business.”

Then looked toward Livia’s room.

That was the first time Rosalie became uneasy.

Because the estate was not scheduled for sale.

At least, not officially.
