Chapter 3 - Livia’s Hair Was Part of Bianca’s War With the Child
Bianca did not hate blonde hair.
She hated what Livia represented.
Alessandro’s late wife, Gabriella, had been blonde.
So was Livia.
Guests said it constantly.
“She has Gabriella’s hair.”
“Same color.”
“Same little curls.”
At first Bianca smiled through those comments.
Eventually she stopped.
She began asking Rosalie to change Livia’s hairstyles before events.
No braids Gabriella used to wear.
No yellow ribbons from old family photographs.
No keeping the hair long.
Once Bianca said:
“She needs her own identity.”
That sounded reasonable.
What she meant was:
She needed fewer reminders of the woman who came before her.
On the wedding morning, Livia entered the bridal suite because Rosalie had stepped away briefly to retrieve the flower basket.
Bianca was already angry.
Livia apparently looked into the mirror and said something innocent.
“Mommy had pretty hair like mine.”
That was enough.
Bianca picked up the clippers.
By the time Rosalie returned—
