The power-of-attorney issue was only half of Robert’s concern.
He had also been reviewing provisions involving Lisa.
After losing her speech following complications from a childhood neurological illness, Lisa depended on adults willing to understand nonverbal communication.
Robert understood that better than anyone.
He had watched people speak over both of them.
Finish their thoughts.
Assume silence meant confusion.
Robert wanted his estate plan updated so a portion of Lisa’s inheritance would be administered by an independent fiduciary rather than whichever parent or stepparent happened to control the household.
Not because Daniel was dishonest.
Because Robert had learned something after his stroke:
Dependency changes power.
He wanted Lisa protected from exactly that.
Vanessa discovered the draft.
That meant if Robert completed the changes—
she would lose potential influence over both his finances and Lisa’s future trust administration.
Suddenly Grace was not merely a caretaker.
She was the bridge allowing Robert to finish those instructions.
