Chapter 11 - Daniel Had to Face What He Did to Grace

Vanessa’s actions did not erase Daniel’s.
He had kicked Grace.
Then slapped her.
All because Vanessa shouted first.
Grace could have been seriously injured when she hit the sofa.
Daniel went to see her personally.
She had bruising across her torso and face but no major internal injury.
She opened the door only halfway.
Daniel stood outside.
“I’m sorry.”
Grace did not answer.
“I believed her without asking you.”
Still nothing.
“I saw Dad scared and I lost control.”
Grace finally spoke.
“You saw what you expected to see.”
Daniel swallowed.
She was right.
“You thought the housekeeper was easier to blame than your wife.”
That hurt more.
Because it was also true.
Daniel did not ask Grace to forgive him.
He told her:
“I’m paying every medical expense. And if you want to pursue this legally, I won’t contest what I did.”
Grace stared at him.
Then said:
“Good.”
No reconciliation.
Not yet.
Accountability first.

That was how it needed to be.
