Chapter 1 - The Bloodied Bride

The fluorescent lights of the modern hospital emergency room buzzed harshly overhead. Amidst the chaos of rushing nurses in blue scrubs and the steady beeping of medical monitors, the tension in Trauma Bay 4 was absolute and suffocating.
Abigail sat shivering beneath a thin white hospital blanket. She was in her late twenties, her beautiful long wavy brown hair matted with sweat. She wore a torn white dress that exposed horrifying, dark purple bruises blooming across her pale arms and a severe cut on her cheekbone. She looked utterly broken.
But she wasn't alone.
Standing right beside her hospital bed was Colonel Rachel Gardner.
Rachel was in her early fifties, a striking woman with her blonde hair pinned into a flawless, immaculate military bun. She wasn't wearing civilian clothes. She was in her full, formal black U.S. Army dress uniform, adorned with gleaming gold shoulder insignia, three rows of highly decorated military ribbons, and a crisp black tie over a white shirt. She radiated an aura of lethal, terrifying authority.
Abigail weakly reached out, her trembling fingers gripping the dark fabric of her mother's uniform sleeve.
"Mom..." Abigail sobbed, her voice barely a raw, broken whisper. "They locked me inside."
Before Rachel could ask what she meant, the heavy glass doors of the trauma bay swung violently open.
Nicholas, Abigail’s handsome husband in his early thirties, marched into the room. He wore an expensive navy blue business suit, looking arrogant, wealthy, and completely unbothered by his wife’s injuries. Walking right behind him was his mother, Patricia—a haughty woman in her early sixties wearing a cream tweed jacket with black trim, a pearl necklace, and a cruel scowl.
Nicholas stopped at the foot of the bed, crossing his arms and looking at his battered wife with absolute disgust.

"She's exaggerating," Nicholas stated dismissively, rolling his eyes at the Colonel. "She fell down the stairs. It was an accident."
