Chapter 7 - The Front Door

An hour later, the sun had fully set, plunging the massive, luxurious estate into darkness.
The sprawling mansion was heavily guarded. Four armed men in dark suits—syndicate mercenaries—patrolled the front gates. Nicholas and Patricia were inside, frantically trying to pack the evidence and flee the country before Abigail could talk.
A sleek, black military SUV pulled slowly up to the front gates.
Rachel stepped out of the vehicle. She had removed her formal suit jacket, wearing only her crisp white military shirt, black tie, and tactical trousers. She didn't look like a grieving mother anymore. She looked like an apex predator.
"Hey! This is private property!" one of the syndicate guards yelled, raising his weapon as he jogged toward the gate. "Turn around and leave!"
Rachel didn't stop walking. She moved with blinding, explosive speed.
Before the guard could even raise the barrel of his gun, Rachel grabbed his wrist, twisted it violently until a sickening snap echoed in the night air, and drove her elbow directly into his throat. The massive guard collapsed to the pavement, completely incapacitated.
The other three guards drew their weapons, but they were facing a highly trained, elite military officer.
In less than thirty seconds, using a combination of tactical disarms and brutal, localized strikes, Rachel left all four armed mercenaries groaning and unconscious on the manicured lawn. She didn't even break a sweat.
She walked up the marble steps, drew her military-issued sidearm, and kicked the heavy mahogany front doors wide open.
