Chapter 10 - The Safe Return

The chaotic, frantic energy of the raid slowly evaporated, leaving the destroyed mansion in the hands of federal forensics teams.
Rachel walked out of the estate, her tactical bag filled with evidence. She climbed back into her military SUV and drove away, leaving the toxic, abusive nightmare in the rearview mirror forever.
When she arrived back at the military hospital, the sun was just beginning to rise, casting a beautiful, golden light through the windows.
Rachel walked into the secure VIP suite. Abigail was sitting up in bed, looking much more peaceful. When she saw her mother walk in, entirely unharmed, a massive, profound wave of relief washed over her face.
"It's over, honey," Rachel smiled warmly, dropping her heavy bag onto the chair. "They are in federal custody. They will never, ever hurt you again."
Abigail broke down into heavy, beautiful sobs of pure joy. She threw off the blankets and rushed into her mother’s arms, hugging her with a fierce, unbreakable love.
"Thank you, Mom," Abigail wept into Rachel's shoulder. "You saved my life."
"I will always save your life," Rachel whispered, kissing her daughter's forehead.
In the months that followed, Nicholas and Patricia were sentenced to life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary, completely abandoned by high society and targeted by the cartel they betrayed.

Abigail fully recovered from her injuries. With her mother by her side, she finalized her divorce, took half of Nicholas's legitimate assets, and started a foundation to help other women escape abusive marriages. The nightmare was finally over, and the arrogant billionaire learned exactly why you never, ever cross a military mother protecting her child.
Do you think life in prison was enough justice for Nicholas and Patricia, or did they deserve to face the cartel instead?
