Chapter 3 - The Interrogation

Nicholas clutched his bleeding jaw, groaning in absolute agony on the cold floor. Patricia shrieked, dropping to her knees beside her golden boy, her cream tweed jacket brushing against the sterile tile.
"You assaulted him!" Patricia screamed hysterically at Rachel. "Security! Arrest this woman! She just attacked my son!"
The two hospital security guards stepped into the room, looking nervously between the weeping billionaire and the terrifying Army Colonel in full dress uniform.
Rachel slowly turned to face the guards. She didn't look threatened; she looked like a commander giving an order.
"I eliminated an active threat attempting to assault a battered patient," Rachel stated calmly, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "If you touch me, I will have you charged with aiding an abuser. Now, remove them from this room. My daughter is giving her statement."
The guards hesitated, but the sheer, intimidating force of Rachel’s presence won. They grabbed Nicholas by his arms, hauling the dazed, bleeding man to his feet.
"This isn't over, Rachel!" Nicholas slurred, blood dripping from his chin onto his white shirt. "She’s my wife! She belongs in my house!"
"Get them out," Rachel ordered.
The guards dragged Nicholas and the screaming Patricia out of the trauma bay, the glass doors sliding shut behind them, finally leaving the room in a profound, heavy silence.
Rachel turned back to the hospital bed. The fierce, terrifying soldier instantly melted away, leaving only a deeply worried mother. She gently sat on the edge of the mattress and took Abigail’s trembling, bruised hands in hers.
"Abigail, honey," Rachel whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "You said they locked you inside. Inside where? What happened?"
