Chapter 15 - escaping death's door
"Drop your weapons!" A heavily armed rogue mercenary squad appeared from the blind spots, tightly locking down all escape routes for Evelyn and her special task force. Hayes had anticipated this move and secretly laid a trap.
But Evelyn never stepped into a battle without foreseeing all scenarios. She smirked coldly, dropping an extremely powerful tactical smoke grenade onto the concrete floor. Thick white smoke flared up, completely obscuring their vision.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the special task force put on infrared goggles and returned fire. Deafening gunshots tore through the night. Evelyn dashed through the dense hail of bullets, crashed through a shattered control room window, and jumped out.
A bullet grazed her shoulder causing her to bleed, but she didn't stop. Evelyn hugged the hard drive tightly to her chest, running toward the armored vehicle waiting at the edge of the forest. The vehicle sped away fast.

The next morning, Evelyn returned to her secure office, placing the hard drive on the desk. "The evidence is finally here," Vance said, his eyes gleaming with ultimate victory.
