Chapter 8 - The Demonstration

The toxic, arrogant energy was entirely dragged out of the high school gymnasium.

Captain Vance picked up the discarded microphone from the floor. He didn't yell. He looked up at the quiet, completely captivated students sitting in the wooden bleachers.

"I apologize for the interruption, students," Captain Vance said smoothly, projecting absolute warmth and authority. "But now that the real heroes have arrived, I believe you are in for an incredible presentation."

Captain Vance handed the microphone directly to Evelyn.

Evelyn took it with a small, confident smile. She looked at Sophie, who was beaming with pure, unadulterated pride. The sixteen-year-old girl stepped back, allowing her mother to take the center of the court.

"Good morning, Harbor Ridge," Evelyn announced, her voice echoing perfectly through the speakers. "As I said, my name is Senior Chief Evelyn Torres. And these are the most elite, highly trained working dogs on the planet."

At her command, the four handlers released their tactical leashes. The massive, beautiful working dogs didn't bark or show aggression. They executed a flawless, perfectly synchronized tactical drill right there on the basketball court, showcasing incredible discipline, intelligence, and agility.

The students erupted into massive, deafening applause. The cruel laughter from earlier was completely erased, violently replaced by sheer, undeniable awe and deep respect.
