Chapter 4 - The Interruption

The cinematic realism of the moment was completely paralyzing.

Helen stepped directly in front of the private doctor, physically blocking him from touching the dying child.

"Move out of the way, Helen!" the doctor barked, completely furious that a housekeeper was interrupting a critical medical emergency.

Frank looked up at the older woman. His desperate, panicked expression violently shifted into dangerous, chilling confusion. He knew Helen. She had practically raised Lucas since his wife died. She was fiercely loyal, and she would never intentionally endanger his son.

Helen stood perfectly still, looking at the untouchable crime boss with heavy tears of pure fear in her eyes. She knew she was risking her own life by speaking up in front of the heavily armed capos, but she couldn't let the little boy die.

"He doesn't have the flu, Mr. Frank," Helen whispered, her voice trembling but ringing with absolute, desperate urgency.

The entire dining room went breathlessly, dead silent.

Frank’s jaw clenched. The lethal apex predator fully awakened, his highly observant mind catching the absolute terror in the housekeeper's eyes.

"What did you say?" Frank asked, his voice dropping into a dark, terrifying register.

Helen held up the white cloth.
