Chapter 8 - The Ghost Arrives

Richard froze, utterly bewildered. "Hey! Move this tank! Do you know who I am?!"
The heavy doors of the black Escalade swung open. Four massive, suited private security guards stepped out, instantly surrounding Richard and cutting off any possible escape route.
The rear door opened.
Stepping out onto the cracked pavement, leaning on a silver cane but radiating absolute, terrifying power, was Eleanor. She was still wearing the white dress and floral scarf she had almost died in just four hours ago.
All the blood violently drained from Richard’s face. He looked like he had just seen a ghost.
"Mother?!" Richard gasped, stumbling backward in sheer, paralyzing shock. "What... what are you doing here?! The hospital said you had a massive heart attack! You're supposed to be in the ICU!"
"I checked myself out, Richard," Eleanor stated, her voice a low, echoing rumble of pure, demonic wrath. "I had some urgent business to attend to. Specifically, meeting the person who saved my life."
Eleanor completely ignored her son. She walked right past him, her eyes softening as she looked at the ten-year-old boy in the grey hoodie.
Julian’s eyes went wide. He recognized the floral scarf. "You... you're the lady from the sidewalk!"
"I am, Julian," Eleanor smiled warmly, tears welling in her sharp eyes. "And you are the bravest young man I have ever had the privilege of meeting. You stayed by my side when everyone else walked away."
Richard’s jaw hit the concrete. His mind spun in absolute panic.
"Mother, wait," Richard stammered, pointing a shaking finger at Julian. "He saved you? The kid with the rent money?"

"Yes, Richard," Eleanor turned around, her eyes flashing with lethal intent. "He missed your pathetic deadline because he was busy keeping your mother alive."
