Chapter 22 - the tainted gift
The following morning, a seemingly innocent package was delivered to the main gate of the Blackwell estate. It was a beautiful white box tied with a pristine silk ribbon, addressed directly to Marisol, supposedly from a high-end wedding boutique.
Marcus, the head of security, intercepted the package as part of the strict new protocols. Using a thermal scanner, he detected an anomaly. He brought the box directly to Caleb’s private, secure underground office.
Caleb carefully opened the box with a tactical knife. Inside, resting on a bed of black velvet, was a perfectly preserved, dead white rose. Attached to the stem was a small note containing a single, chilling sentence: "Enjoy your final days of happiness."
Caleb’s jaw locked into solid stone. The terrifying, apex-predator energy radiating from him instantly dropped the temperature in the room. He knew immediately that Victor Thorne was officially making his move.
