Chapter 32 - the digital battlefield

Noah stood in the foundation’s high-tech control room, his dark eyes locked onto the glowing red screens displaying the ransom demands. Marco Falcone was demanding fifty million dollars in untraceable cryptocurrency within twenty-four hours.

If the demand was not met, Marco threatened to permanently delete decades of critical medical research and expose the private health records of thousands of vulnerable children. It was a vicious, cowardly, and devastatingly effective extortion tactic.

Noah did not panic. He had been trained by the undisputed king of Boston’s underworld. He picked up his secure phone and called Marcus, his father’s loyal former security chief, who now operated an elite, private global cybersecurity firm.

"They used a zero-day exploit, Noah," Marcus reported grimly. "The encryption is military-grade. We can't break it before the deadline. Marco is hiding behind proxy servers in Eastern Europe. He thinks he's completely untouchable."
