Chapter 8 - The Inside Job
The cinematic realism of the chaotic, terrifying betrayal completely electrified the phone call.
Through the speaker, Alexander could hear the absolute, catastrophic destruction of the Romanov empire. The fifty heavily armed guards hadn't just accepted the massive bribe; they had instantly, violently turned on their bankrupt boss. Heavy automatic gunfire and desperate, panicked screaming echoed loudly through the connection.
"Alexander, wait!" the Romanov boss wailed hysterically, violently thrashing as his own men aggressively kicked down his office door. "Please! I'll give you Sofia! I'll give you everything!"
"I already bought everything," Alexander replied smoothly.
"Take the phone!" a deep, unfamiliar voice barked on the other end of the line. The Romanov boss let out a horrific scream before the line went dead for a fraction of a second.
The unfamiliar voice came back on the line. It was the captain of the Romanov guard detail, the man Alexander had just paid twenty million dollars.
"The compound is secure, Mr. Alexander," the captain stated respectfully. "The Romanov leadership has been completely neutralized. We have your sister. She is safe and entirely unharmed. We are preparing to transport her to your penthouse immediately."
