Chapter 1 - The Angry Scowl

The grand American mansion interior was a cinematic display of immense wealth and cold, untouchable authority. Highly polished marble floors reflected the warm lighting from massive crystal chandeliers. Elegant, expensive furnishings lined the walls, but the atmosphere inside the foyer was incredibly tense.

Standing in the absolute center of the room was Vincent Castellano.

He was a fiercely handsome man in his late thirties, wearing a sharp black three-piece suit, a crisp white shirt, and a black tie. A heavy gold watch glinted on his wrist. He was the most feared, ruthless mafia boss in the city, known for his violent temper and zero tolerance for mistakes.

Right now, Vincent was scowling intensely. But he wasn't glaring at a rival capo or a failing employee.

He was scowling down at a three-year-old girl.

Mia was a tiny toddler with brown hair tied in a messy bun with a white bow. She was wearing a miniature version of a black and white maid uniform.

Most fully grown men would have withered under Vincent's terrifying glare. But little Mia didn't flinch. She fearlessly crossed her tiny arms over her chest, tilted her head, and mimicked his angry scowl perfectly.

"Why is your face like that?" Mia asked innocently, her small voice echoing across the dead-silent marble foyer.
