Chapter 2 - The Terrified Mother

The heavy silence in the grand foyer was suddenly broken by the sound of frantic footsteps.
Sophia, a woman in her thirties wearing a crisp black and white maid uniform, rushed out of the adjacent dining room. Her dark hair was pinned up in a neat bun, but her face was completely pale with sheer, unadulterated terror.
Sophia had lost her childcare that morning. Desperate to keep her job, she had secretly brought Mia to work, hiding her in the staff quarters. But the toddler had wandered off directly into the path of the apex predator.
Sophia slid across the polished marble, throwing herself between the dangerous mafia boss and her tiny daughter.
"Sir, I'm so sorry!" Sophia choked out, breathless and trembling. She fully expected to be fired on the spot, or worse, physically thrown out of the mansion into the freezing rain.
A medium cinematic shot captured the tense standoff. Vincent didn't look at Sophia. He kept his intense, dark eyes locked entirely on the defiant three-year-old girl who was still crossing her arms.
Slowly, deliberately, the massive, terrifying mafia boss crouched down on the marble floor.
He crossed his arms over his tailored three-piece suit, mirroring the child perfectly. For five agonizing seconds, the ruthless criminal and the tiny toddler just scowled intensely at each other.
