Chapter 6 - The Stolen Watch

Sophia’s eyes locked onto Carmine’s wrist as he poured a second glass of bourbon.
Underneath the cuff of his expensive suit, a very unique, custom-engraved platinum watch glinted in the warm lighting.
Sophia’s blood ran completely cold. The cinematic realization crashed over her with the force of a nuclear bomb.
Sophia had been the head maid in this mansion for five years. She remembered that exact platinum watch. Vincent had specifically commissioned it as a highly custom, one-of-a-kind wedding gift for Elena. It was supposed to be presented to her on their wedding day. Elena had kept it hidden in her private safe.
If Elena had stolen the money and run away, she would have taken the watch with her.
There was absolutely no logical reason for Carmine to be wearing Elena’s custom wedding gift. Unless Elena never ran away. Unless Carmine was the one who stole the syndicate money, framed the innocent fiancée, and murdered her to cover his own tracks, keeping the expensive watch as a sick trophy.
Sophia was paralyzed by sheer, unadulterated terror. She had just discovered the biggest, deadliest secret in the entire mafia syndicate.
Suddenly, her foot slipped on the polished marble floor.
