Chapter 1 - The Bakery Encounter

The bright, warm daylight poured through the massive front windows of the corner bakery, illuminating the rustic wooden counter and shelves packed heavily with fresh artisan bread. The cinematic realism of the cozy Sunday morning was completely uninterrupted, until absolute, heart-stopping panic shattered the peace.

Naomi, a beautiful thirty-something woman with long brown hair, wearing a simple teal coat, stood at the wooden counter. She was quietly, carefully counting a small handful of coins to pay for a single chocolate croissant.

Standing right beside her were her two identical five-year-old sons.

Eli, wearing a bright yellow jacket, looked up at his mother with big, empathetic eyes. He gently tugged on the hem of her teal coat.

"Mom, one is enough," Eli whispered sweetly, noticing his mother didn't have enough money for two pastries.

His twin brother, standing right next to him in a blue jacket, tightly clutched a small spiral notebook against his chest. He looked at his brother and nodded bravely. "Eli and I can share."

Naomi smiled a heartbreakingly warm smile, kissing both of their foreheads.

But standing exactly three feet behind them in the bakery line was Theo.

He was a thirty-something corporate titan wearing a heavy gray overcoat over an incredibly expensive dark suit. He was holding his cell phone, aggressively scrolling through his emails. But the exact second he heard the little boys speak, Theo physically stopped breathing.

👉 Theo slowly lowered his phone, completely unprepared for the apocalyptic shock waiting for him when the boy turned around.
