Chapter 3 - The Mistress Arrives

Adrian’s hand froze mid-air. He pulled back, his attention violently diverted to the doorway.

Vanessa, Adrian’s stunning, thirty-something Vice President of Operations, strutted into the master bedroom. She wore a skin-tight scarlet designer dress and carried a crocodile-skin handbag. She wasn't just his lead executive; she was the woman who had spent the last eight months in London warming his bed and poisoning his mind against his wife.

Vanessa looked around the half-empty bedroom with a vicious, triumphant smile. She was completely convinced that today was her coronation as the new lady of the massive estate.

“Oh, good, the movers are almost finished,” Vanessa sneered, her voice dripping with toxic, unearned arrogance. She looked at the woman in the pale-blue knitted dress with unfiltered disgust. “Make sure you have them use the service elevator. We don't want them scratching the marble on your way out.”

Adrian remained silent, his brow furrowed. His eyes were still intensely focused on his wife’s face, entirely ignoring Vanessa’s cruel commentary. He was deeply unsettled by how thoroughly his wife had prepared to leave without shedding a single tear.

His wife didn't scream at the mistress. She didn't throw a childish tantrum.

She stood perfectly composed behind her barricade of unlabelled cardboard boxes, her hands resting invisibly on her hidden, eight-month pregnant belly. She looked at Vanessa with a cold, terrifying pity.

“The service elevator is fine,” she replied softly, her natural micro-expressions radiating an untouchable, apex-predator calm. “I wouldn't want to leave a mess for the new tenant.”
