Chapter 9 - The Eight-Month Secret

“We can fix this,” Adrian begged, his voice cracking with raw, unadulterated pain. “I will fire the entire executive board. I will give you half the syndicate. Please, just don't walk out that door.”
He reached out his hands, desperate to pull her into a hug, desperate to feel her warmth after eight agonizing months of isolation.
His wife didn't step back. She simply turned her head toward the doorway.
The two movers in blue work clothes walked back into the room. With quiet efficiency, they grabbed the final stack of cardboard packing boxes resting on the table between the husband and wife. They lifted the boxes and walked away, completely removing the physical barrier that had obscured her body.
Adrian froze. His outstretched hands dropped limply to his sides.
The soft, bright daylight illuminated her fully. The pale-blue knitted maternity dress perfectly hugged her body, highlighting the heavy, undeniable, and beautifully round curve of her eight-month pregnant belly.
Adrian completely stopped breathing. All the color violently drained from his face.
His eyes widened in a frozen, breathless look of absolute, earth-shattering shock. He stared at her abdomen, his mind desperately trying to calculate the timeline. Eight months. She was exactly eight months pregnant.
She had found out she was carrying his child the exact same week he had blindly thrown divorce papers at her and exiled himself to London. She had endured the entire pregnancy, the morning sickness, the fear, and the isolation completely alone, all while building a billion-dollar empire to secure her child's future.
