Chapter 4 - The Kitchen Camera

The heavy mahogany front doors burst open. Two paramedics rushed into the dining room, immediately lifting Brenda onto a stretcher. Her pearl necklace clattered against the oxygen mask as they wheeled her frantically out of the house.
Two armed police officers stepped into the room, looking at the spilled soup and the shattered wine glass.
Thomas realized he was completely cornered. His mother was dying, his debts were unpaid, and his wife knew everything. The arrogant, composed husband entirely shattered into a feral, desperate coward.
"She did it!" Thomas shrieked like a banshee, pointing a shaking finger directly at Liliana. "She cooked the dinner! My wife poisoned my mother!"
Liliana immediately burst into flawless, convincing tears. She buried her face in her hands, playing the terrified, devastated victim with cinematic perfection.
"I don't know what he is talking about, officers!" Liliana wept, her dark green dress trembling. "I was setting the table! But... if you want to know what happened to the food, you should check the kitchen security camera. I installed it last week to monitor the cleaning staff."
Thomas stopped breathing. The air in his lungs violently turned to dust.
