Chapter 5 - The Digital Proof
"A camera?" the lead officer asked, immediately stepping toward the kitchen.
"No! Wait!" Thomas panicked, lunging forward to stop the officer, but the second cop instantly grabbed his arm, holding him back with a firm, iron grip.
Liliana handed her unlocked smartphone to the police, pulling up the live feed and rewinding it thirty minutes.
The high-definition, crystal-clear footage played perfectly. It showed Thomas sneaking into the kitchen, looking nervously over his shoulder. It showed him pulling a small glass vial from his dark suit pocket and dumping the clear liquid directly into the bowl of squash soup on the left side of the tray.
But the video didn't stop there.
It showed Thomas leaving the room. Ten seconds later, Liliana walked in. She didn't panic. She didn't scream. The footage showed her calmly, flawlessly swapping the left bowl with the right bowl, ensuring the poisoned soup was placed directly in front of her mother-in-law's seat.
The officers stared at the screen, and then slowly turned to glare at Thomas.
"You spiked the food," the officer stated coldly, reaching for his handcuffs.
