Chapter 9 - The Financial Slaughter

The next morning, Liliana walked flawlessly into the county jail visitor center. She wore a sharp, custom-tailored emerald power suit, looking like absolute, untouchable royalty.

Thomas was brought out in an orange jumpsuit. His handsome face was bruised from his fall, his eyes bloodshot and swollen from crying all night.

He picked up the glass partition phone with trembling, desperate hands.

"Liliana, please," Thomas sobbed pathetically, completely shattered. "The syndicate knows I'm in here. They know I don't have the money. They are going to kill me in this prison! You have to authorize the property guarantee! Pay them off and hire me a lawyer! I'm your husband!"

Liliana looked at him through the thick, smudged glass. She felt absolutely zero human empathy for the monster weeping in front of her.

She pulled out her smartphone. She opened the banking notification that had started it all.

“Liliana, your authorization is required to complete the property guarantee.”

She held the screen up to the glass so Thomas could see it perfectly. With a slow, deliberate, merciless smile, Liliana pressed the red Decline button.

"You aren't my husband," Liliana whispered coldly into the phone. "You are just a dead man walking."
