Chapter 8 - The Hospital Verdict

The heavy, suffocating chaos of the evening finally faded as Thomas was thrown into the back of a police cruiser, his desperate, pathetic cries echoing down the street.

Later that night, the hospital called Liliana with an update on Brenda’s condition.

The heavy, untraceable sedative Thomas had used was designed to cause a massive cardiac event. Because Brenda was in her sixties, the poison had triggered a severe, catastrophic stroke before the paramedics could even pump her stomach.

Brenda survived, but she woke up in the intensive care unit completely paralyzed on the right side of her body, unable to speak a single word.

When Brenda opened her eyes, she didn't see her beloved son waiting to comfort her. She saw two federal police officers standing over her hospital bed, reading her her Miranda rights. She was officially handcuffed to the bed rails, charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Brenda realized the horrifying, inescapable truth. She had poisoned herself, destroyed her own body, and sent her only son to a maximum-security prison. Her precious pearl necklace was gone, replaced by a cheap hospital gown and absolute, paralyzing ruin.
