Chapter 3 - The Guardian Loophole

Harper had spent her entire childhood wearing her sister's hand-me-downs, paying for her own school supplies, and working a part-time job just to buy a used car. Meanwhile, her parents had paid for Cassidy's expensive out-of-state tuition, a lavish wedding, and recently, the exorbitant legal fees for Cassidy's messy divorce.
They had drained their own retirement accounts to keep their golden child afloat. When the money ran out, they turned their greedy eyes to Harper's untouchable trust fund.
"Sign the final transfer authorization right there at the bottom, Harper," Martin said smoothly, pointing to the line on the document. "I'm still listed as your primary financial custodian on the original trust documents. I’ve already done all the heavy lifting. I transferred the funds into the escrow account yesterday afternoon."
Harper’s breath hitched. They hadn't just asked her. The second she blew out her birthday candles yesterday, her father had used a temporary legal loophole as her guardian to seize control of the trust account before she could officially claim it.
He had drained one million dollars of her grandfather's money to buy Cassidy a luxury five-bedroom house.
