Chapter 6 - The Secret Attorney

Martin’s face turned an ugly shade of purple. He slammed both of his fists onto the table, making the coffee cups violently rattle.

"You're lying!" Martin roared, the gentle father facade completely shattering. "You don't know how to move offshore money! You're an eighteen-year-old kid who works at a bookstore! Sign the papers, Harper, or so help me God—"

"I didn't move it," Harper interrupted cleanly. "Grandpa's attorney did."

Denise gasped, clutching her burgundy blouse as if she had just been stabbed. "Mr. Vance? He hasn't represented this family in eight years!"

"He hasn't represented you in eight years," Harper corrected her mother coldly. "But he has been my silent legal counsel since I was ten. Grandpa knew exactly what you would do the second I turned eighteen. He knew you would try to use the brief custodial window to drain the account."

Harper reached into the pocket of her pale-blue sweater. She pulled out a small, sealed white envelope and tossed it onto the table.

"Grandpa left specific instructions," Harper continued, staring right through her father’s enraged eyes. "If you tried to access the funds without my written, notarized consent, Mr. Vance was ordered to execute a secondary, hidden protocol. The money is gone. You can't touch it. Ever."
