Chapter 7 - The Sister's Panic

Cassidy finally realized what was happening. The beautiful five-bedroom mansion, the luxury furniture, the fresh start—it was all evaporating right in front of her eyes.
"Harper, you can't do this to me!" Cassidy shrieked, tears springing to her eyes. She slammed her hands on the table. "I already gave notice to my landlord! My lease ends on Friday! Where am I supposed to live?!"
"That sounds like a you problem, Cassidy," Harper said coldly. "You're twenty-five years old. Get a second job. Stop expecting our parents to steal from your teenage sister to fund your lifestyle."
"You selfish little brat!" Denise screamed, pointing a shaking finger at Harper. "Your sister has been through hell with her divorce, and you are hoarding millions of dollars like a greedy little dragon! We are your family! You owe us!"
Harper stood up slowly. She looked around the beautiful breakfast room, at the people who had treated her like a burden for her entire life, and felt absolutely nothing for them.
"I don't owe you a single dime," Harper said quietly. "You didn't buy this house for her, Dad. You signed a binding purchase agreement under your name, assuming my money would cover the check. But the check is going to bounce."
