Chapter 6 - The Digital Trap

Richard didn't scream. He didn't punch the hood of his car. He stood perfectly still in his dark navy-blue shirt, the cool twilight illuminating the quiet, terrifying power radiating from his posture.

He looked at Claire’s smug face, and then he looked at his mother's desperate, greedy eyes.

"I didn't come here tonight to eat turkey, Mom," Richard stated flawlessly, his voice echoing in the quiet suburban driveway. "I came here because my private investigator sent me a file an hour before I left my apartment."

Claire’s victorious smirk instantly vanished. Her shoulders tensed under her velvet dress. "What are you talking about?"

Richard reached into his pocket and pulled out his smartphone. The screen glowed brightly in the darkening evening.

"You really think you're the smartest person in the room, Claire," Richard said softly. "But you forgot that my startup designs corporate security software. Including the encrypted audio systems in the conference room where you meet your lover."

Claire stopped breathing. The blood completely left her flawless face.

Richard tapped the screen of his phone and turned the volume all the way up.
