Chapter 8 - The Shattered Illusion
Claire backed away, her hands shaking so violently she dropped the manila folder onto the concrete driveway. The elegant, untouchable wife was completely gone, replaced by a feral, cornered coward.
"Diane, it's a deepfake!" Claire shrieked hysterically, her eyes wild with panic. "He manufactured that audio! I am going to write the check! I swear!"
"You lying parasite!" Diane roared, unleashing an unhinged, feral fury.
Diane lunged forward, grabbing Claire by the shoulders of her emerald velvet dress, shaking her violently. The refined, elegant matriarch was completely unmasked as a desperate, terrified woman who realized she was about to be homeless.
"I ruined my relationship with my son for you!" Diane screamed, tears of pure panic streaming down her face. "You promised me that money!"
"Get your hands off me, you old hag!" Claire shrieked back, violently shoving Diane away.
Richard watched the two toxic, manipulative women completely implode, tearing each other apart in the driveway like rats on a sinking ship. He felt absolutely no human empathy for either of them.
He slowly reached down and picked up the manila folder Claire had dropped.
