Chapter 4 - The Lockdown

Dante didn't say another word to Elena or Lucia. He didn't need to. He slowly stood up to his full height, his broad shoulders casting a long, dark shadow across the study. His face was set in lethal, cold calculation. He stared down the hallway where Colette had just disappeared.

Without taking his eyes off the hallway, Dante reached under his heavy mahogany desk and pressed a hidden silver button.

Instantly, the entire atmosphere of the mansion changed. Heavy steel shutters slammed down over the grand windows. The massive electronic locks on the front doors echoed with a loud, final clack. The estate was entirely locked down. No one was getting in, and more importantly, no one was getting out.

"Stay here," Dante ordered Elena, his voice completely devoid of emotion. "Do not move. Do not let anyone else into this room."

Elena nodded frantically, wrapping her arms around Lucia and pulling her onto the leather sofa. She was trapped in the middle of a deadly mafia conspiracy. If Colette really had poisoned the boss, the cook would do anything to eliminate the only two witnesses who saw her do it—a terrified maid and a three-year-old girl.
