Chapter 8 - The Little Glass Bottle

Colette was trapped. The arrogant, manipulative cook who had just tried to ruin a young mother’s life was completely out of options. She stared at the mug of coffee, hyperventilating, realizing that her assassination mission had just failed spectacularly.

With a sudden, desperate scream, Colette violently swiped her arm across the counter. She knocked the ceramic mug away, sending the poisoned coffee shattering against the stainless steel refrigerator.

Without missing a beat, Colette spun around, diving for the heavy meat cleaver resting on the cutting board.

But Dante was faster.

Before her fingers could even graze the handle of the knife, Dante’s hand shot out like lightning. He grabbed Colette by the throat and slammed her brutally against the marble countertop. She gasped for air, her eyes bulging in terror as the mafia boss easily overpowered her.

With his free hand, Dante reached directly into the deep, hidden front pocket of her black-and-white chef’s uniform.

He pulled his hand back. Resting in his palm was exactly what the three-year-old girl had described. A tiny, clear glass bottle with a rubber stopper. There were still a few drops of thick, clear liquid clinging to the inside of the glass.
