Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

The kitchen was massive, gleaming with stainless steel and white marble. When Dante walked in, Colette was aggressively scrubbing her hands in the sink. She jumped slightly when the heavy kitchen doors swung open, but quickly forced a bright, innocent smile onto her face.

"Mr. Dante!" Colette said, her voice slightly too high, her eyes darting nervously toward the locked windows. "Is everything alright? The lockdown alarm just triggered. Should I prepare the safe room?"

Dante didn't answer. He walked slowly across the kitchen, stopping just a few feet away from her. He stared at her with a gaze so piercing it felt like physical pressure.

"How was the espresso, sir?" Colette asked, trying to fill the suffocating silence. "I used the new beans you requested from Colombia. I hope it was to your liking."

"I didn't drink it," Dante said softly.

Colette’s fake smile faltered for a fraction of a second. She reached for a dry towel, her hands visibly shaking as she wiped them. "Oh? Was it too bitter? I can make you another cup right away."

"You won't be making me anything ever again, Colette," Dante replied, stepping closer. "Because a three-year-old girl just told me she saw you put something into my cup from a little glass bottle."
