Chapter 9 - The Price of Treason

"Please!" Colette choked out, tears of absolute panic streaming down her face as Dante held her pinned against the marble. "The Maroni family made me do it! They said they would kill my brother if I didn't poison your morning coffee! I had no choice!"

Dante’s expression didn't change. He felt no pity for a woman who was willing to murder him in cold blood and then viciously blame an innocent child and her mother to save her own skin.

"You had a choice, Colette," Dante said softly, his voice echoing like a death sentence. "And you made the wrong one."

The kitchen doors burst open. Four of Dante’s heavily armed enforcers rushed into the room, their weapons drawn. They had finally bypassed the lockdown protocols to reach their boss.

"Take her down to the basement," Dante ordered, releasing his grip on Colette’s throat and tossing her directly into the arms of his men. "Find out exactly who gave her the order. Then, make sure she never sees the sun again."

Colette screamed hysterically, kicking and begging for mercy as the guards dragged her away. Her cries faded down the long hallway until the mansion was plunged back into a heavy, eerie silence.
