Chapter 5 - The Master Deed

"Yes, her house!" Owen yelled, completely frustrated by his mother's lack of submission. "We pay the utility bills! We bought the furniture! You're just living in the guest suite!"
"You pay the electric bill, Owen," Dorothy corrected flawlessly, completely dominating the driveway. "But you clearly haven't looked at the county tax records."
Dorothy reached into her purse and pulled out a heavy, legally notarized document. She didn't hand it to him. she held it up directly in front of his face under the glow of the driveway streetlamp.
Owen’s annoyed expression violently faltered. The color completely drained from his face, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost.
"When you got married three years ago," Dorothy explained smoothly, her voice echoing with lethal authority, "you begged me to sell my retirement condo to put the down payment on this massive house. But because your credit was completely ruined, the bank required me to be the primary signer on the mortgage."
Owen physically staggered backward, his jaw literally unhinging as the absolute, apocalyptic reality of his financial failure set in.

"I didn't just co-sign, Owen," Dorothy whispered, her eyes flashing with lethal danger. "I am the sole, exclusive owner on the master deed. You and Christa are completely, legally classified as my month-to-month tenants."
👉 Owen’s knees buckled as he realized he had just allowed his wife to throw the landlord out of her own house.
