Chapter 7 - The Final Audit

"You can't evict us!" Christa shrieked wildly, violently thrashing her arms. "We have tenant rights! We'll drag you to housing court! We'll sue you for every penny we put into the mortgage!"

"You haven't put a single penny into the mortgage," Dorothy whispered smoothly, dropping a financial guillotine directly onto the driveway.

Owen stopped breathing. The air was completely sucked out of the night.

"What is she talking about, Owen?!" Christa panicked, aggressively grabbing her husband's arm.

"For the last two years," Dorothy explained coldly, ensuring Christa heard every single word, "Owen has been lying to you. The 'mortgage payments' he supposedly made every month were actually going directly to his secret online gambling debts. I have been paying the entire mortgage, the property taxes, and the home insurance entirely by myself out of my retirement fund just to keep a roof over your arrogant heads."

Christa physically collapsed backward against the side of the car. The crushing magnitude of her husband's horrific betrayal completely annihilated her reality. She hadn't just been abusing the legal owner of the house; she had been abusing the only woman actively keeping her from being homeless.

"Mom, please! I'll pay you back!" Owen sobbed pathetically, dropping to his knees on the concrete driveway.

"You don't have a job, Owen," Dorothy replied, completely devoid of human mercy. "You were fired three weeks ago. Did you forget to tell your wife that, too?"

👉 Christa turned on her husband like a rabid animal, completely destroying their toxic marriage in front of the neighbors.
