Chapter 9 - The Reclaimed Sanctuary

Exactly thirty days later, the sheriff's department arrived at the property.

Owen and Christa had completely destroyed their own marriage during the eviction period. Christa’s parents, utterly humiliated by their daughter's financial ruin, refused to let them move in. Christa filed for a vicious divorce, demanding alimony from a man who was completely bankrupt.

They were officially escorted off the property by armed deputies, completely stripped of their fake wealth, their arrogant pride, and the beautiful home they had taken entirely for granted.

Dorothy walked back into her massive, beautiful house.

The toxic parasites were permanently gone. The house was completely silent, clean, and utterly peaceful.

She didn't retreat to the cramped guest suite. She walked directly up the grand staircase and moved all of her belongings into the massive, luxurious master bedroom. She completely reclaimed the space, throwing out Christa's expensive, arrogant decorations and replacing them with her own warm, beautiful memories.

Dorothy didn't weep over the loss of her son. She felt a profound, overwhelming sense of relief. She had spent her entire life sacrificing her own happiness for a boy who grew up to be a monster.
