Chapter 13 - the trap at the docks

Midnight descended over the freezing, fog-drenched shipping ports of Chicago. Julian's elite, heavily armed mercenaries moved through the shadows with military precision, aiming to plant synchronized thermal explosives on Silas's primary cargo ships.

They wore advanced night-vision gear, entirely confident that the port security was minimal. They moved silently past the towering shipping containers, completely undetected.

Or so they thought.

As the lead mercenary approached the main control terminal to hack the security grid, the heavy metal doors of the surrounding containers suddenly slammed shut with deafening, terrifying clangs.

The massive floodlights of the port violently flared to life, instantly blinding the intruders and washing out their night-vision goggles.

Silas stepped out from the shadows of a massive crane, wearing a dark trench coat over his tailored suit. He wasn't surrounded by hundreds of guards; he was flanked by a small, elite tactical unit.

"You brought explosives to my docks, Julian," Silas's deep, demonic voice echoed over the loudspeakers, cutting through the freezing fog. "You really thought a broken engagement would make me forget how to protect my territory?"
