Chapter 16 - the absolute verdict

"You thought I was weak because of a lying woman," Silas said, stepping closer to the trembling cartel leader. "You thought my empire was vulnerable. That was a catastrophic miscalculation."
Julian backed away until he hit the floor-to-ceiling glass window, the sprawling, glittering city of Chicago stretching out behind him.
"I have money, Silas! I can pay you double the value of the ports!" Julian pleaded hysterically, sweat pouring down his pale face. "Let me walk away!"
"This isn't about money, Julian," Silas replied, his voice devoid of any human mercy. "This is about the absolute, terrifying consequence of challenging my throne."
Silas didn't pull the trigger. He holstered his weapon slowly.
"You are going to transfer every single cent of your syndicate's operational funds into my untraceable offshore accounts," Silas ordered coldly. "And then, you are going to get on your private jet and fly back to Europe. If you ever set foot in my city again, I will not be this merciful."
Julian nodded frantically, tears of absolute relief and humiliating defeat streaming down his face. He had lost everything in a single night.
