Chapter 9 - The Banishment

Silas didn't touch the ring. He looked at it with absolute, freezing disgust.
He slowly buttoned his black suit jacket, his dark, tattooed neck flexing as he looked down at the weeping, humiliated woman he had almost married.
"You owed the Petrov syndicate two million dollars," Silas stated calmly, revealing that his intelligence network already knew about her debts. "You were going to use my insurance payout to save your own life, and you were willing to send an innocent deaf kid to a concrete cell to do it."
Veronica couldn't even speak. She just sobbed, nodding pathetically, completely destroyed.
"Take her jewelry," Silas ordered his men, his voice devoid of any human empathy. "Take the earrings, the necklace, the purse. Everything bought with my money stays in this room."
Right in front of the staring crowd, the massive guards stepped forward and stripped the weeping socialite of her diamonds. The beautiful off-the-shoulder red evening gown suddenly looked cheap and meaningless without the stolen wealth draping her neck.
"Throw her out the back service doors," Silas commanded softly. "And tell the Petrov syndicate that her debts are no longer under my protection. She belongs to them now."
"Silas, no! They'll kill me!" Veronica shrieked in sheer, unadulterated horror, thrashing wildly as the guards violently grabbed her bare arms.
