Chapter 7 - The Cowardly Parents

"He's lying!" Sienna wailed hysterically, completely abandoning her sophisticated persona. She looked desperately at her parents. "Mom! Dad! Do something! Tell him he's lying!"
But Beverly and Gordon weren't coming to defend her. The cinematic realism of their sheer, unadulterated terror completely paralyzed the gravel driveway.
They realized they were actively standing on a crime scene. By accepting the stolen money, they were legally implicated in a massive, multi-million-dollar federal wire fraud case.
"We didn't know!" Beverly panicked loudly, aggressively pointing her finger at her own daughter. "Elliot, I swear to God, we had absolutely no idea she was stealing from Mark! We are innocent!"
"You're about to explain that to the FBI," Elliot replied smoothly, completely devoid of mercy. "Because Mark handed the entire financial ledger over to the federal fraud division at nine o'clock this morning."
Gordon physically staggered backward, completely terrified of going to federal prison in his sixties.
He didn't hesitate. Gordon aggressively grabbed the handle of his large black rolling suitcase and violently shoved it back into the rear hatch of the luxury SUV.
