Chapter 8 - The Divorce Papers

"Dad, wait!" Sienna shrieked wildly, scrambling down the wooden steps of the porch. "You can't leave me here! I don't have anywhere else to go!"
"You really are incredibly stupid," Elliot whispered coldly, completely dominating the scene.
Elliot pulled one final, heavy stack of papers from the back of the blue folder. They were thick, legally certified, and stamped heavily with the official seal of the federal family court.
"These aren't just property deeds," Elliot announced smoothly, holding the papers out toward the trembling daughter-in-law. "These are your emergency divorce papers. The judge signed them an hour ago."
Sienna stared at the thick stack of papers in absolute, breathtaking horror.
"You are completely, legally locked out of the house," Elliot explained flawlessly, ensuring every single word cut like a knife. "You are completely cut off from his corporate accounts, his credit cards, and his health insurance. You are entirely, irreversibly bankrupt."
Sienna let out a horrific, high-pitched scream of pure, unadulterated terror. She dropped her expensive beige designer handbag onto the dirty gravel, violently thrashing her arms.
