Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Salute

Commander Hayes brought his heels together with a sharp, echoing snap, standing at absolute, rigid attention.

Before hundreds of stunned guests, the senior Navy SEAL commander raised his right hand into a razor-sharp, formal military salute.

"Ma’am, we’ve been waiting for you," Commander Hayes stated formally, his voice ringing with profound, unwavering respect that echoed across the entire base.

Emily slowly rose from her seat. Her movements were unhurried, steady, and composed. She returned his gaze, her posture instantly shifting from an exhausted civilian to a soldier who had commanded battlefields.

"I didn't want today to be about me, Commander," Emily replied calmly, her voice carrying a quiet, authoritative weight that paralyzed the air around her.

Ryan stumbled forward from the graduates' bench, his face completely pale, his hands shaking in his pristine white uniform. "Commander Hayes... there must be some mistake! That's just my sister! She's... she's nobody! She works a desk job!"

Hayes didn't even glance at Ryan. His salute remained locked on Emily.
