Chapter 2 - The Perfect Prime Rib

The silence that followed Robert’s words was deafening. It wasn’t just quiet; it was a heavy, suffocating paralysis. Forks froze halfway to mouths. A waiter standing in the doorway holding a silver serving tray physically stopped in his tracks.

Robert stood tall, his chest puffed out in his tailored charcoal suit. He had planned this brutal public execution for months. He wanted to humiliate Julia so profoundly that she would be too broken and embarrassed to fight him in court. He expected her to burst into tears, to scream, or to run out of the restaurant in absolute shame.

Instead, Julia didn't shed a single tear. Her natural micro-expressions didn't show a hint of panic.

She calmly placed her silver steak knife beside her plate. Her slow, deliberate eye movement shifted upward, locking directly onto Robert’s arrogant face.

"I agree to the divorce," Julia said. Her voice was smooth, quiet, and terrifyingly level.

Robert blinked. His rehearsed, cruel expression immediately faltered. The champagne flute in his hand lowered just a fraction of an inch as confusion began to cloud his features. This wasn't the reaction he had scripted in his head.

"You... you accept the settlement?" Robert asked, his voice losing its booming authority.

Julia gently picked up her white linen cloth and dabbed the corners of her mouth with absolute grace.
